CPUs and Temps compared

Hi guys,

I'm considering upgrading my AMD x2 6000+ cpu and mobo for something a bit more modern.

could you advise on which would be better for running cooler generally speaking? As its for a HTPC i'm wanting it to run as quiet as poss and currently i'm running a scythe ninja without an attached fan with 2 120mm fans extracting on the side.

anyway. I assume that going from a 125w to a 95w will cut down the temps somewhat. but does intel run cooler?

thanks in advance

yeah i know, trouble is its the main pc in the house now so as such i use it for games as well. plus I have dual tuner dvbt pci card which i would have to purchase a usb tuner stick instead of for.

the biggest issue is games and general performance really. else i would have got an acer revo some time ago

The B-grade will just be the motherboard by itself, you won't get the extras such as SATA cables and such. But it should be fine if you already have those.

8gb RAM is overkill, 4gb is enough for gaming and HTPC. You only need it if you're doing a lot of HD video/photo editng.

Keeping the scythe ninja sounds like a good idea, maybe replace the fan with a cooler one?: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-003-GD&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=4

EDIT: The 840 is actually an Athlon, just renamed Phenom as it performs so close to the Phenom line. Go for it, it's clocked faster and cheaper, and still should be cool as it lacks the L3 cache.

also. is that ram 100% going to work with that mobo/cpu? it says its 1600 when the mobo says it works with 1800(OC) / 1666 / 1333 / 1066 MHz
