hello

my best friend was recentley killed in a motorcycle accident and his wife has asked to see if i can get in his computer for all the wedding photos and holiday shots ive had hours bashing at various passwords have tried something called ophcrack but to no avail ...its linux and iwas'nt sure of what i was doing .....it cracked a easy password on a test run but it looked totally different on my m8's machine ...btw its vista 64 ultimate on a raid 5 array ....any help would be much appreciated thank you ...

you could try installing windows xp on a seperate IDE/sata drive in the pc, then taking ownership of the folders on the pc if you can't view them on the 'd' drive..

-sorry to hear about your mate :(

Get a linux live cd like knoppix, boot it up and all being well you should be able to just copy the files off the drive to a usb pen or upload to the net etc, unless the user files are encrypted.

Passware Kit (Windows section) now supports vista ... insert the cd, select which account you want to reset (administrator) press Y to confirm, it then sets the password to blank ... take the cd out and reboot ... login with new password ... doesnt get any easier

I know in XP if you boot in Safe Mode, it gives you access to a normally hidden 'Administrator' account, but not sure how it works in Vista

Doesn't have to be in safe mode - hitting ctrl+alt+del twice will give you the "classic" log on. type in administrator + <admin password> to log in.
