Crackdown Co-op Question

Hello, I got Crackdown this morning, and it's a pretty fun game, but I had a question about the coop.

I have played about an hour single player campaign. Now if I join a coop game, is it just like I am playing my single player campaign, but there is another dude running around playing HIS game? Or do I effectively start over?
Also if I level my character up in coop, if I then play single player, are his stats/completed missions carried over?

I am slightly confused as to how it all works, and the manual is no help at all.

Your character stats ALWAYS remain, who ever hosts will play there single play game

so if you;ve done 1 boss and you host hell join with 20 bosses remaining, if you join his game and hes kill 5 bosses there will be 16 left to kill when you join his. No matter what your character stats always remain the same.


When i first co-op'ed i had already completed the story so my mate joined my game with enemies off so we could pratt about - but i helped him kill some of his bosses. To get the "complete every mission in co-op" achievement - if you;ve already killed bosses this can be obtained by doing them all in time trial.
