Cracking CPU block? damn

That happened on the cpu block I had. Never caused a problem and used it for over 5 years. But I don’t use the clear acrylic stuff now as it was rather scary seeing it. People seem to think it was caused by over tightening the fittings.

it was an ek block I was using.
 
It's crazing from overtightening the fittings. I have had it happen to my acrylic EK Supremacy but it didn't leak. It put me off using clear acrylic blocks though.
 
If overtightening is discarded, some pressure from the tubes leaving the block can help to create similar effect, but only if soft tubing is used, as I doubt such stress can be created using hard tubing, for example a short bend from GPU to CPU. A slightly longer or shorter tube can force the fitting, but is hard to believe that would be enough for such.
Considering how often reports of this is happening is being reported lately, and by experienced users, kind of make me think twice before buying any acrylic top block.

I askedEK about this, they said they are planning to sell a mini torque wrench and publish torque specs for their blocks so over/under tighten can be a thing of the past
 
Have had the same with clear blocks. It’s mainly because they are acrylic so they crack easily if overtightened. Whereas the black/white blocks are acetal so much softer and more forgiving.

Same story if you try tightening any of the clear gpu blocks. Non of the screws are particularly “tight” but they crack/splinter if tightened up much more. Never had one leak though just doesn’t look nice.
