I have an ASUS A8N32 motherboard. I have the Realtek AC97 audio driver installed. I seem to get severe crackling when playing games, usually after either changing some graphics settings or going to my desktop, then back into the game.
I've checked IRQ settings - there no sharing or conflicts. I've muted all audio I/Os I don't use. None of that helped. The only thing that seems to get rid of it is by setting DirectX audio acceleration to either basic or none, but this causes problems in some apps, worst being they don't work.
I'm using the audio drivers I got with the motherboard. I've heard that perhaps using the nVidia drivers rather than Realtek would be a good idea?
The problem isn't my speaker as they were fine in the old computer (Logitec Z-2300 2.1 THX Cert.).
Anyone else encountered similar problems?
