Crackling during games

Hi,

I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS. It usually works fine for games and music. However, on some games, I get loud, frequent cracks coming from my speakers.
It happens mainly in 3D shooters such as FEAR or Battlefield 2, although on BF2, if I select Software Sound Driver rather than Hardware the problem disappears.

I have downloaded the latest drivers and my sound card is not too close to any other cards in the PC

Any thoughts?

I used to have the same thing happening to me but I installed 2 small patches to fix the problem.
Do you by any chance have a ViA chipset?

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner

I installed both the PCI Latency patch for VIA chipsets and the Patch for Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! and Audigy-series drivers from http://www.georgebreese.com/net/software/

It cured my problem but as you don't have a ViA chipset, it won't help you.

I just upgraded to a router around a week ago and ever since using it I have had no crackling sounds even though I have uninstalled the 2 PCI latency patches.

The USB modem must have been the culprit in my case :confused:

eeper, you don't by any chance use a USB modem do you?
