Aww man that sucks, people say the mflash can be dodgy, but I've never had a prob.

That MSI Forum Flash tool I linked is virtually fool proof as well, it's an actual DOS program that works within Windows, great program and never ever fails.

Wish I had seen the problem quicker.

It sounds quite good and I though mflash was fool proof too. It even backs up the old bios incase installion fails but it told it installed with no issues but the mono display reads 00 and there's no code for that in the handbook :(

I think Imma spend extra and grab that 250quid asus board on OC and if they replace my msi I will sell it on

Yeah it's got me paranoid now, because sometimes I use Mflash, tonight I decided to use the MSI forum flash program.

Was it the MPower you had or the XPower, because the BIOS downloads you linked were for the MPower, latest one being 1.5, XPower only goes upto 1.4

As for motherboards, if your just gaming - a cheap <£130> will do everything you need, but if you want the extra features that come at a premium go for it. The Asus Z97 Formula is a nice board.

Just make sure you buy it from Overclockers because Asus are crap with RMA - even with OcUK your looking at 28 days, longer with other retailers.

I've got a 4790K, I've been considering the Asus Maximus VII Ranger, but I like quick RMA turnaround so still unsure yet.

I was going to suggest resetting your overclock as perhaps the CPU is thermal throttling at 4.5ghz? did you recover the bios? what sort of volts are using? temps?

It's a mpower always make sure it's right before doing anything.

I think am just going to grab the formula cause I can't stand waiting over 1 month trying to get a new Mobo sorted...

If you got the motherboard from the "rainforest" they are the exception, they will give you a full refund whether you had the board 1 day or 2+ years regardless of manufacturer.

If you have had the MPower 28 days or less, you can get a straight replacement or a full refund from the retailer.

If you have had it over 28 days, then the retailer will send it to MSI to be fixed / replaced, as far as I'm aware it's between 10 to 25 days for MSI graphics cards, the motherboards go back to the same place in Holland.

Yeah it makes you weary trying another board from the same manufacturer once something like this happens.

I can't help thinking their may have been something else up as you had other issues i.e. the crackling, something else may of caused the BIOS to corrupt.

If you can get a full refund go for it, the Asus Maximus boards are nice, warranty can be decent if you get it from the right place.

New Mobo ordered thank you guys for the support. Am going to ditch the sound card too since Mobo has a very nice on board one.

At lest now i can get back on my pc hopefully wed and await a reply from msi about the Mobo. Ah well what can you do!

Sorry to hear that bios repair did not work for you.

I think you have chosen a good board with the Asus so far I have only used them in all my builds and think they are great mobo manufactures?
Hope all goes well with a refund on your Mpower board :)

Yeah you could compare the sound quality of the on board one, if it's not good enough least you got the Soundblaster Z to fall back on.

I coudn't do without my ZxR, but it's expensive.

Sound Blaster X7 will be coming out December 2014, external via USB with built in power amp, it's gonna cost around £250
