Hey,

I was told today, by someone working behind our student bar, that cranberry juice reduces the affect of alcohol e.g. drinking a vodka cranberry as opposed to vodka coke will cause you to feel the effects of alcohol more. Personally thought it was crap, wikipedia mentions nothing, as does google. Wondered if anyone had heard anything similar?

i tell you what i find makes me feel more drunk, the smoking ban.

ever since the smoking ban i will have 10 cigarettes on a night out at the most, as opposed to 30/40 and when i have one, especially after a skinful i feel really really drunk- and its not always the fresh air if you catch my drift.

30/40 a night, WTF?! Are you a semi-automatic chimney? I don't criticise the lifestyles of others, but it does boggle my mind how you can actually FIT that many cigs into one night's worth of time.

Right now I am enjoying a cranberry & apple cider.

It is awesome, but it has no discernible effect on the speed at which I get intoxicated.

Coke will make you feel the affects faster. As fizzy drinks helps the absorption of alcohol. You probably couldn't tell the difference though.

I was about to say the exact same thing, thats one of the main reasons why a lot of drinks are mixed with coke.

Vodka and Orange is a good combo also, as there is less chance of you waking up from a hangover as your taking a lot of Vit C (which alcahol drains)

Lol I wouldn't trust the staff at medecine to know anything about the drinks they are serving. The amount of times they've given me a gin and soda instead of gin and tonic :(

at least gin and lemonade tastes ok, gin and soda is just disgusting. Medecine is really going downhill tbh, every single pool table has an enormous slope now :(

Anyway I'm taking this way off topic :p. Don't know much about the absorbtion rate etc but I do know cranberry as a mixer is more refreshing than fizzy stuff.

if you like gin and lemonade you will love this new drink called gin and tonic, yum yum yum.

I must say, its a bit of a coincidence you posted this tonight as I am drinking cranberry jooce and vodka. I for one must say I do feel more drunk than I normally would than drink vodka and irn-bru.

It may just be though that im not used to the different bevvy. :D

the only thing i find has a noticable effect on the speed at which i get drunk is champagne, thts gets u hammered quick. as for vodka cranberry, sounds a tad girly to me :p lol

I thought it had more to do with masking the taste than anything else but the absorption may be a secondary benefit.

The only way vodka and cranberry will get you less drunk is the embarrassment factor of asking for it might mean you go to the bar less often. ;)

I like cranberry juice in the mornings or late when i get back home, full of vitamins with a lot of water. Doesnt do any magic but its quite refreshing.
