Why is it that magazines seem obsessed with comparing the Nikon D200 against the Canon 5D???

They are clearly aimed at different markets, full frame against cropped, one with a large buffer and high frame rates and one without, need i go on??

So why is it they feel the need to continue these useless comparisons (which coincidentally seem to fall 50/50 on each side!), the shots shown for image comparison are not of the same are of the subject in *** same ammount of detail because of the frame size differences, the cameras are not set up the same (in camera sharpening for example) and in one thats currently on the shelves they compared the 5D with Canon 50mm F1.4 against the Nikon wiht a 50mm F1.8 - WHY? Nikon make a 1.8 as do Canon so why use Canon's flagship 50mm and not use the equivalent from Nikon???

The who thing stinks to high heaven of backhanders and really poor reviewing techniques. If there isnt an equivalent camera then say so, dont mis match them just for the sake of filling a few pages!

I agree with you totally. Magazines never do like for like comparisons whatever they are reviewing. Prolly more back handers than football............ maybe not!! :p
 
I had noticed the same thing. The text in the review claims they are in the same market, but I totally agree with you. They are aimed at different types of photographer (by that I mean different subject types).
 
I thought that Practical Photography' landscape photography comparison of the two was quite informative - if nothing else about little quirks of the two cams.

I can understand how one or two people may be umming and aaahing between the two - but certainly not many.

Perhaps just because they're both new, and both from Nikon // Canon?
Or that they sit somewhere between the low end 350D's and D70's and the really high end stuff? Although then it would make more sence, as mentioned above, to throw the 20D into the mix. Hmmm.

All of them, there must be 20+ photo magazines and every one is getting it wrong by comparing these 2 cameras, not just AP but PP and the others.
