Hey guys,

My wireless internet is usually fine but often the signal strength gets so poor that the whole computer actually freezes up. I have tried reinstalling the adapter, changing the wireless channel, checking for adware/spyware/viruses, restarting the router and many more things but nothing seems to sort things out other than reinstalling Windows. It seems that after I've been using the PC for a while and the hard drive fils, the wireless internet suffers. According to all the security software I've used though (Norton, McAfee, Spybot, Ad-Aware etc.) my system never has problems that are causing this.

On my family's PC (which is directly above the wirless router), the signal is always perfect. My PC is well within the maximum range of the devices but for some reason the signal is often rubbish. Moving the wireless adapter to different parts of the table can help temporarily but never long-term. Is there some way I can boost the receiver to pick up the signal better? Or some other method that would help?

what make is your wireless adapter?

Also have you tried the wireless adapter from the other PC in yours? You might have a dodgy card.

My wireless adapter is a Belkin F5D7050.

I've tried the other (Netgear MA111) but it is only a "B" standard one and the signal is even worse in my room than the Belkin.

Somebody told me that I could boost the signal by making a dish out of tin foil and attaching that to the adapter. Has anybody ever done this and if so how's the best way to make it?
