Crash Dump files.dmp how do you open them

windbg reads them and unless you're familiar with assembly language and the program whose dump you're looking at then they will make no sense at all.
 
They usually make sense enough to tell you the likely cause of the BSOD by giving you the most likely filename as the cause. It's not always going to be the specified file that caused the problem though. Usually to diagnose a recurring issue you would need a sequence of minidumps as one is not enough to get the full picture.
