So, today when I get to work I noticed traffics a bit slower than normal, get a bit closer notice theres a 2 car RTA, Fiat 500 in front and a Leon with a smushed front end, looks like the guy behind wasnt watching in rush hour traffic and bumped the girl infront.

Now, me being me, and because I work for a security company, we have cameras everywhere at work, so, while waiting for a phone call I start sifting thru footage...

Low and behold the traffic, while normal for the time of day, is moving along nicely, woman in the F500 just jumps on the brakes for no reason at all, guy behind doesn't stand a chance...
Happened at 0807, she didn't get out of her car until assisted by the ambulance crew nearly 2 and a half hours later, at the same time the police turned up, i spoke to the copper, who wasn't actually called to that job and was just passing, said that the call had been closed and was being dealt with by the ambulance crew, told him I had footage and that she did it on purpose but he said as the call was closed all he could do was make a note against the system, but as the guy ran into the back of her, it'd of been his fault..

Now I've only looked at footage of the accident so far but while skimming through it to find the accident I did see another white F500 go past a few minutes earlier, will look closer tomorrow and see if its actually the same person, if it is, and I'm not expecting it to be tbh, white F500's aren't exactly rare, how will the insurance company look at it, shes caused the accident,a nd if she has been driving around it wont look good for her...

It's a crime. Simple as that. I had someone Asian bloke try it with me a while back. It was so flaming obvious. Called the non emergency number to report it and they said they'd log his plate.

Sadly even if she did step on the brakes it's still the guy behind who was travelling too fast to stop in time.

Indeed, you're supposed to leave enough room so that you can stop, regardless of what is infront of you. Still, it's a scummy thing to do.

Nope. Deliberately causing an accident is a crime. Braking like that for no reason is unlikely to have any other explanation.

I think you might be missing his point? Yes, it's probably a fraud. But it only worked because the person behind was not driving the correct distance back. You should be driving under the assumption that the person in front could do an emergency stop at any moment. In case they do.

Yes we should also leave space but there are times when you do go a bit close not on purpose. Eg when someone pulls out on you on the motorway. Let's face it. It would be pretty easy to cause a crash if you tried.

People should be prosecuted for this. Please try your best to find the insurer and tell them what's up. Will save the Leon driver a lot

No. The point is it's a criminal offence. It's irrelevant how close or far the person is. If someone intentionally causes a crash then they are at fault.

How would you prove that they stopped on purpose?

Lol what? Cars don't just suddenly stop. Even with most mechanical issues. The one that would do it is the brakes suddenly jamming themselves on or a major drive system failure. These would be visible after the crash.
The cctv would also show whether or not brake lights came on.

Without CCTV, or even witnesses I'm sure you would be screwed as it would be your word against theirs.

What sort of payouts are these scum getting? A F500 can be bought quite cheap and they're fairly "innocent" cars, in that they probably wouldn't raise eyebrows. A woman is also (feel free to correct me on this) less likely to raise suspicion, so it could well be that this is an organized racket. It's not unheard of.

A girl in a 500 doesn't seem like the usual scam, there are often more in the car. Despite what the CCTV may show i would imagine there is more to this story.

I can think of reasons why someone would stop for no apparent reason. Anectdotal story time..

A woman in front of me slammed on her breaks for no apparant reason.

I drive with distance to stop, so I stopped, pulled over and got out to have a look at what was going on.

She was already out the her car when I got out to see, and, long story short there was a spider in her car.

I duely removed said spider for her and she was on her way.

Private Nurse, nice car, and she was fit.. so I counted my blessings and carried on home.

To be fair that has happened to me and made me jump. Hate the things! :p

:D
I had an old couple do it to me yesterday, just slammed the brakes on on a straight bit of road, with no turnings. Then they just carried on as if nothing had happened. I try to leave plenty of room when following other cars, but as mentioned that's not always easy on motorways when idiots are weaving about and cutting into every gap they see.
