Yeah ano crashes happen all the time but this one i really do not know how the people in the car survived.

They closed the road off for a good few hours so unfortunately for us we was stuck at the office for a good few hours so decided to have a good nosey.

Only had my work phone on me at time and its not to good with the camera:

Pictures do it no justice, the front end of the car was completely flattened with the engine being all over the road.

Whats happened the pillock driving the car was doing 70mph down a 40 road and lost control bumped into the pavement which as threw him back out over the centre road pavement and into oncoming traffic and straight into the van. The passenger of the car wasn't wearing his seat belt so he flung out of the passenger door and ended up under the vans back drivers side wheel, Steve (who i work for) managed to get him from under the wheel.

The vans windscreen had 2 headbutt smashes in the screen, so doubt the van driver and passenger was wearing there seatbelt either.

The police officer said, if the passenger of the car was wearing his seat belt he would most likely be dead now as that side of the car had all buckled in, so he was lucky in a way that he wasn't wearing his seat belt and that he got flung from the car.

Thought i would share this story with the motors lot and to anyone who was curious to know what had happened if they got diverted on there travels in sheff.

Reminds me of a crash from a while ago before airbags were commonplace. Driver was was on a dual carriageway, lost control and hit the barrier. The driver wore a seat belt but still hit the steering wheel and died, passenger wasn't wearing a seatbelt and flew through the windscreen only suffering from cuts and bruises.

This happened a few years ago with a lorry. You can see where the wall has been rebuilt. Took me hours to get home that night:p

Saxo, well I figured they'd be poor given the size but that's terrible! NCAP rating of -10 tbh.

Moral of this story is that if you drive a Saxo, don't wear seatbelts. :p

I've heard loads of similar stories where someones probably survived a crash as they weren't wearing their seat-belt, thought they were implemented and and by law to wear them for our safety, I guess though statistically your more likely to survive wearing one.

Oooft thats bad.

Remember seeing a saxo that had hit a lampost. The lampost was in the middle of the car, supposidly from rumors was doing 50.

I hit a lampost at 60~ and just bounced straight off it.

.

I have no idea, maybe it's a macho thing. but I'm about teh only one who wares a seatbelt in the works vans and this has been the same in pretty much all my jobs. Why do people not wear them , I'm sure most of them will wear them in their own cars.

I tend to put my seatbelt on when out of residential areas in the van. Because I jump out every few minutes delivering I tend not to bother until out on the main roads.

In the car however, religiously on start up.

I feel uncomfortable not wearing a seatbelt when driving, though my co-driver never wears his due to being to fat/idle to attempt reaching for it.
