Crash problem with X1950 Pro

I've got a very annoying crash problem with my new PC which I'm pretty certain is being caused by the graphics card (an HIS IceQ X1950 Pro) but I'm running out of ideas of what to check next.
The machine is a new biuld I put together a month or so ago with all new components. A quick run down of the bits: -

Core2Duo E6300
1Gb Geil ULL RAM
Gigabyte DS3 motherboard
HIS IceQ X1950 Pro
Corsair 520W PSU
Antec Gaming case

Everything seemed fine to start with as I've mainly been playing WoW and Supreme Commander, both of which work fine for hours on end. The problem started when I tried the beta of LOTR online and I was getting crash to desktop within a couple of minutes of playing. No big deal I thought, it's a beta test, must be the game but I thought I'd try out a few other games just in case.
Unfortunately other games are having the same problem, Oblivion again crashes within a minuteevery time I try it. 3DMark06 works perfectly time after time but Aquamark always crashes at exactly the same point, just after the 'Massive Overdraw' test. Each crash is the same, dump to desktop with and error window saying 'EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION'.
I've checked all my drivers and re-installed everything, currently running the latest Catalysts with Ati Tray Tools. One of the first things I thought of was temperatures as I was overclocking the CPU by a fair bit but the Intel TAT shows my cpu temps as only in the 40's under load and I can run dual SP2004 for 24 hours with no errors so I think that's all fine. I have however gone back to stock CPU speed and the problem still occurs. According to Ati Tray Tools the graphics card temp is barely breaking 50 degrees but I've upped the fan speeds anyway but that didn't fix it. I cant think of much else software wise I can do and am thinking I might just have a duff card but I'll be happy to hear any other suggestions :)

TIA

The graphics card itself hasn't been overclocked at all by me but it came with higher clocks than reference as it's an IceQ model with the big 2 slot cooling system.
I do have 2x512 meg sticks of RAM so I'll give that a try, see if it helps.

That last reply doesn't sound promising, are there some known issues with HIS cards?

I haven't run that particular memory test but I have run 2 instances SuperPrime 2004 over night when I was testing my CPU overclock and that ran fine with no errors so I'm fairly confident the RAM is ok but I'll do some extra tests just to be sure.

Is your cpu overclocked if so you might be crashing due to not enough vcore
ive had the same thing fixed when i upped the vcore to 1.35 volts 4300
at 3077.
