Crash ;<

So now ive got no idea where to look.

Basically, when I play mafia 2, one strange thing will occur.

First, my CPU is overclocked to 3.8ghz, GPU to 910 on core, 880 being stock for TF2

Now when a GPU overclock is unstable, the drivers will crash. But this is different. Mafia 2 is a GPU heavy game btw. Ok, so the crash looks like this. The game would suddenly freeze and ive got to alt tab out of it through device manager. at the toolbar at the bottom, there's strange colours and firefox icon or so go purple etc, and the error message Mafia 2 has stopped working gave some artifacting looks aswell, it's hard to explain.

Since a GPU overclock failing would give a driver crash message, where do I start to see what is causing this ?

GPU overclock failure won't always give a driver crash message, it can just lockup entirely, cause the game to run really slowly and all sorts of other outcomes.

Ive reduced CPU OC to 3.7 and the problem isn't appearing anymore.

Also in mafia 2 before ive ALWAYS had driver crashes if the GPU OC was too high. The problem came after I got my new cooler and mobo and OC'd the CPU to 3.8.

So is it safe to say the CPU oc was the problem ?

Well if you arent experiencing the problems at all after laying back on the cpu oc then yes, i would say ur cpu oc is to fault

It's kinda strange though, as Mafia 2 is a GPU intensive game, and BC2 has my CPU working at 100% and during the 3.8ghz overclock I did not see one issue with it.

BC2 has been added to my list of stability checks, ive had prime/linpack stable overclocks fail on it

Really strange stuff with this. Mafia 2 is GPU intensive but I stopped crashing after reducing my CPU clock to 3.7, and its only 100mhz.

What gives ?

BC2 is fine though.
