crashday direct x problem?

Have had this working but last night refused to load quoting something along the lines of unable to initiate direct x subsystem, your system config is invalid. Everything else is working fine, have tried uninstalling and reinstalling graphics and sound drivers, have uninstalled and reinstalled the game - twice and run dxdiag which says everything is ok. Anyone any ideas?

At least I can put the side on my pc without it sounding like a industrial vacuum cleaner.......

9c and catalyst 6.3 so everything up to date.

I'll check but seem to think that all graphics/sound options are set in the in-game menu.
