Ok, I've got a computer that I'm trying to fix and everytime it shuts down it crashes on the screen saying 'computer is shutting down'

Ot never actually shuts down no matter how long you wait, its a factory build Dell, about 2-3 months old and hasn;t got much in the way of programs before.

Any ideas, suggestions?

Hi,

First thing to do would be to browse Dell website see if it is a known issue and there is a solution. ;)

Do a full virus/trojan scan of your box is it clean?
Which Dell model is it?
What have you installed between sucessful shutdowns and the failure?

If you have two pc's there is software that will allow you to view running processes on a remote machine, at least until the network driver is unloaded. This my provide a clue

I used to have this problem on my current machine, turned out to be Sygate. Only ever happened after using P2P appz though.
