I am having problems when playing games. After i have been playing for about 5 mins it just freezes and i can't do anything with the PC. The temps seem ok. Does anyone have any idea's of what may be causing this to happen or how to resolve it? I used to play games just fine until a few weeks ago. The only thing that i have changed is that i added 2 more sticks of dual ch ram. I have removed these since to rule it out and it still freezes.

  • Which games?
  • Which PSU?
  • Running latest drivers/updates/patches, i.e. GFX, BIOS, mobo-chipset, Windows, the game(s), etc?

Games tested that crashed so far are Farcry & Sniper Elite.

PSU is 460w X-Pro

Vid drivers are.. 84.21
Windows XP SP2
not sure about the others or how to find which i have. I do have the updates for Farcry.

I think it's your PSU. I had a simlar problem with the 6600GT. Always crashed when starting to use 3D stuff since it consumes a lot of power. Instaledled a more powerful PSU (Seasonic 600W)and it worked fine.

Your PSU is a critical part of your PC and you must never skimp on it.

This is the only info i have for this psu, the rest of my setup is in my sig. I also have another sata hdd and an ide hdd.

I were told that these PSU's are quite good and not a cheapo by Semiprowaster and a few others in the forum. Is this wrong?

Is there any way to check if it is the PSU that is causing this before going out and buying a new one that may not solve this problem?

Not very good/promising when the manufacture does not list specs but features instead :(

Mate, have to read the specs off of the PSU yourself, like this (Corsair VX Series Specs) :)

I hear what you're saying hp7909 but at the time when i were looking for a PSU i were advised that this was a good and reliable model.

I think i have found a workaround for my problem and i don't think it was the PSU. I have been doing a lot of reading through the forums and found something about changing the Vsymc from aplication controlled to on and it seems to have fixed the problem. Just have to plug all my other drives and fans back in now as i removed them to eliminate things.
