So i have an rtx 5090 running at x16 4.0 due to using a 4.0 riser however my new 4tb nvme is 3.0. since my new drive was put into the top slot (cpu pcie lanes used) i have been having issues with random crashing. is it possible that the 3.0 nvme is having issues while the cpu slot is set to 4.0?

Does it help if you set the PCI Gen of the GPU slot to 3.0?

Maybe this is a red herring and the new drive is just.... broken?

I will first remove the riser and see if the issue is fixed then try running in pci-e 3.0 if the riser removal didn't fix the issue.

ive got a gen 4 riser cable actually as well if i get board il plug that in instead swap with the gen 4 gpu thats in the gen 4 pcie slot go completely backwards just for the fun of it yeah? lol
see if i can connect it via some kinda ghetto usb 2.0 adaptor into the slowest usb socket i can find on the pc ........

Run it at 640x480 with 16 colours.

so i put my cpu into 3.0 and issue is fixed. Just removed my riser and put to 5.0 and issue reared its ugly head. starting to think my nvme is the issue. now going to move my nvme into the chipset m.2 slot and see if that fixes my issues. if so i will install the riser again and see if that works at 4.0 again until i can get a 5.0 riser as they are so expensive and as i have the arctic storm 5090, the vertical mount looks nice in my system so will get a 5.0 riser soon as they are very expensive

Don't bother, just mount it horizontal like a normal person ;)
Put the money saved towards a DDR5 mortgage upgrade :P

Hope you get it sorted dude :)

Will you be able to rise the challenge though?

Or lower your expectations it'll work?

Sorry to hear that, but at least you've found the issue, this means you can probably use your riser again, right? :)
