If a PC is stable playing ET and RtCW but crashes playing CoD2, UO and BF2 what could be the cause? would there be a clue in event viewer?

Friend's PC, info limited.

Hi!

Is the PC overclocked at all? Has he got the latest drivers for his sound card, graphics card and chipset?

Has he done an Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware scan?

It could be faulty memory - perhaps download memtest (NOT the Windows version) and leave it running for a few hours

What are the specs of his PC? What power supply is he using?

Well I think I figured it out. Its a 6800 GT that comes overclocked from BFG. I turned the overclocking down to "stock" levels (using a registry hack) and wouldn't u know it works fine now : / I will never buy another BFG product again. It was a heat issue for sure, but I have a case fan, video card fans and even run it with the case open. I read that sometimes the cards can really be overclocked and other times not. You would think BFG would test the stability before selling. Thats why the older games did not crash it
