Thinking about hiring a Caterham for the day.

The dealer is based over in Crawley. Would like to know whether there are any decent driving roads in the area?

not considered hiring over a few days?

Chances are that you'll find that 'day' will fly

Na. One day will be enough. I don't have a garage to put the car in so would prefer not to keep it over night.

Any road out of Crawley is a great road.

This.

Seriously though, there were some decent enough roads from Charlwood down to Rusper (i think via Russ Hill), but I can't remember too much - I used to work near Ilfield -but it was my first job out of uni.

Charlwood road along the south runway near Lowfield heath is a massive straight, if you want to "test the straight line speed" as it were.

Some of these roads are horrible though.

When you find some nice roads let me know as I live in the crappy place and there is nowhere decent to drive!

Theres a few roads I enjoy around here, but they're just not very long!

- East Grinstead through Dormansland to Edenbridge
- A264 from East Grinstead towards Tunbridge Wells
- Our route to Goodwood from E.G through Handscross, Cowfold, Partridge Green, Storrington and Amberley

Most of the once great rural roads in the UK are bad now. They are either a minefield of potholes, or been covered in that crap quality tarmac I've recently been encountering a lot of :(

First move is GET OUT OF CRAWLEY. About a 1/4 are uninsured told to me by a policeman after my car was hit by an uninsured driver.

I live in Horsham a few miles down the road. Crawley is cheap car and non-legal central.

Across towards East Grinstead and then down towards Eastborne/Hastings/Camber you'd be able to find some good roads. Too much traffic down this part of the country though, even on a nice road you always end up stuck behind someone

Didn't know there was a caterham dealer there, it's only 5 minutes away from me. I know what to suggest for birthday/xmas gifts now :p

The Griffin in Fletching for lunch then head towards Eastbourne back towards brighton on the a27 then depending on time cut north either on the a24 or further West.

You will be infuriated by people dawdling along though. I live here and driving during the day makes me want bullbars and a 50 cal.

Best road I've found round here is the A272 between Wisborough Green and Petersfield. Unfortunately as said most of the rural roads here are narrow and busy - the '272 is at least wide with the odd possibility of a safe overtake (and some unsafe ones) and you go through Petworth and Midhurst, which are nice towns. I think the A285 between Petworth and Chichester is notorious as an accident blackspot, so probably a good driving road.
