alright, my mate told me the other day that i can re-flash my 8800GTX's to that of the ones above it (by that i mean i have these some reason the site isnt doing the 650+ 1010+ version anymore). i was wondering how this is done... if its possible. even with sli. if so, if i do go ahead doing it (IF that is) then will i be able to overclock higher than i am at now (621core 2020mem).

cheers, ags

You can flash the bios to the factory OC versions, but it won't allow you to clock any higher, the factory OC ones are tested so they can reach the advertised speeds, the regular ones may be able to, but no guarentees. It will just make the card think that the overclocked speeds are its stock speeds, so you don't have to set them with ntune all the time. Plus it is pretty risky, if it goes wrong, you have a very expensive useless chunk of silicon and there is no way you could get an rma. i don't think it would be worth it really,

only thing you could do is flash the bios with a higher voltage setting, which would allow you to clock higher (i think, someone correct me if im wrong in saying that)

But, as said, if the flash goes wrong your gpu is useless

actually, i think you have to bugger about with resistors to change the voltage, like changing the set resistor to a rheostat. i don't know about you, but i would rather not try that
