Hi, I've today been offered a position within a company I've long wanted to work for, Subject to a CRB check.. :o

Does anyone know if cautions show on standard CRB Checks? Or is it just Enhanced CRB checks that cautions show?

I would think it mainly depends on what the caution is for. Afaik cautions do show on it.

If you had a caution for something car related for example, I doubt anyone would care.
If you had a caution for following school girls home from school, then they probably will.
 
What you’ll find on a criminal record check
The CRB check will either confirm that you don’t have a criminal record, or it will list any relevant convictions, cautions, reprimands, warnings and, if applicable, whether you have been barred from working with vulnerable groups. The police can also include non-conviction information, for example, fixed penalties, that may be relevant.

It was Cannabis related about 3 years ago.

I was under the impression a caution is spent immediatly, So it wouldnt show on a standard check (Me being hopeful lol)

All depends on what you are doing. A friend of mine has a suspended sentence for possession of a Class A drug (they attempted to charge him with possession with intent to supply) but he still came through our CRB check fine, and is on his way to being a fully qualified accountant.
 
I wouldn't be so hasty. If they've offered you the role then carry on the process and see what happens. They may not care about a 3 year old caution or for the reason for the caution. See what they say.

From a bit of Googling it seems a caution isnt a conviction so it only shows on enhanced crb checks, Or on government vetting things for high security jobs.

The job is basically handling expensive computer components (lots of them) so I suppose they'll mainly be looking for anything theft related?

no that would be stupid. A caution is not a criminal conviction - it is exactly what it means a warning/slap on the wrist regardless of what you got cautioned for and this is why it is never spent it simply just shows up on records (since it goes int the police DB).

Its essentially deemed that it wasnt serious enough to progress through the justice channels but you DID admit to it.

dont worry about, A company would either be exceptional cruel or just plain stupid to not accept someone based on a caution. And in either cases the company has to follow a set list of rules to even ask for a CRB and if they break it could face heavy penalties.

FYI: i have a caution from 10 years ago as i got into a drunken fight (I say fight it was mainly me with a knife to my throat) - not the highlight of my life and I have worked with young adults for a large portion of my career and have never had any issues and no one has ever questioned it.

so stop worrying, mistakes happen but you shouldnt hold it over your head for the rest of your life (providing you have learnt from them that is)

Cautions show on Enhanced CRB checks.......it is at the discretion of the Constabluary whether they are mentioned on a Standard CRB check.

Remeber that only RELEVANT spent convictions and/or cautions should be considered in your application.
 
Having had much experience with this subject... with my girlfriends criminal past ;) I can confirm that for a standard CRB check cautions will show. Spent cautions wont show.

I believe it takes 5 years before they are spent.

Of course do your own research. Call CRB checkline if you want to be 100% sure.

Regardless, dont let this stop you going for the Job!!!! And perhaps you should just declair if asked...

I'll think about giving them a call mate cheers.

I was asked in the interview if a crb check would come back fine and I said yes it would, Did I lie :confused: (I thought it only showed convictions at the time)

Cautions are spent the moment they are issued......there is effectively no such thing as an unspent Caution.

The point of CRB checks is that they show all convictions, cautions etc.......whether they are sprnt or not....however you still retain the protections of the rehabilitation of offenders act in regards their relevance to the position.

Contact NACRO if you are concerned, they will be able to advice you.

Give the CRB helpline a call tomorrow to check, because chance I'm wrong.

I personally wouldn't worry about it. If it turns out that there is a caution and they see it, the first thing they're going to think is that "it's just a caution, and he probably didn't realise". Also it's probably going to say something like posession of 'Class C'.

If they did ask you, you can just say that you didn't know.. which is the truth.

EDIT: Just saw Castiel's reply.... so as I say, chance I'm wrong then
