Create a local folder on my MacBook Pro to move mail items to?

Hi Guys

I have a domain name with email coming in from it, what I want to do is have a local email folder within Mail so I can drag my read emails that I want to keep into and not have oversize limit messages coming in from the hosting company!

Hope that makes sense... Is there any way to do this? I can't seem to fond what I'm after on the web?

Smart mailbox its called is the right CR?

Is that then local to my machine?
