Creating a gaming server?

I was wondering if this is something that you can run off another computer on the network.

Would it be possible to run a server on one computer and use the same internet connection to run another computer to play the same game on?

Yes, you'd have no problem connecting to other servers over the internet, and you'd just connect to your own server via its LAN IP.

Even if it does cause problems, you can usually change the listening ports of dedicated servers to avoid conflicts.
