Hello,

Basically I've got a computer with dual LAN adaptors so I thought to connect my laptop through the second so I could get internet on that as well. The problem is when I try to tick the "allow other network users to use this connection etc etc" it says that the service could not start due to some dependancies. So I went to services.msc and looked at ICS to see what dependancies it had, and tried to start them. But the thing is that the Remote Access Connection Manager cannot start, it fails every time. It's dependancies are both open except that one of them (Secure Socket something) when it starts it automatically stops because "it is not used".

What can I do here?

Any help appreciated, thank you.

Is there anything useful in the event viewer?

Guessing you don't have a router? It's the easiest way.

How would the Uni even know?

the make a check each semester, I'm sure they'd notice it... while's it doesnt say anything for a lan through two computers, it only mentions a router which is illegal.

So, anyone knows how tobreak through this?

Well, ICS should just work, but it looks like you have various services not working. It could point to a bigger problem concerning your PC.

Have you got a network bridge in your connections? if you have this can stop ics from working.

Well, I do not know, but my pc is fully up to date, clean from viruses, spyware etc, defragmented etc. I do a service every month.

A bridge? I remember seeing an option when i right click on connections about a bridge, I'll check it and get back to you

When I click on bridge it says that I must have two high speed lans not being used by ICS. So I guess the bridge thing is not enabled?

Try highlighting both connections in the Network panel and then selecting "brigde network connections."

It wont get an ip, fix the ip to the same subnet as the one that the desktop gets, using the desktop ip as the gateway.

Basically, just plug in your ethernet cable that is currently going into your PC into a port on the switch and then a short ethernet cable to both the pc and another to the laptop. It will just work!

alright will do when I get the chance to order one thanks!

was hoping to get it to work like this tho :P

Bridging the connections in "Network" on the main pc should work too. As said above, you will have to alter the ip settings of the laptop for it to work over the bridge.

i already did that, but i have to tick the "allow other computer to connect through this connection to the internet" and ICS (the service) will not start no matter what. So I have no internet on the laptop. I tried manually starting it, and its dependancies only to reach to a dependancy which shuts down.
All of these are mentioned above.

Sorry if i'm too much hassle just a bit angry as to why I cannot use both of my lan ports :(
