Hi I'm going to be upgrading my current rig. I'm a games design student soo I do a lot of 3D and video rendering along various digital art pieces so I've been looking into all the options for my budget (about £600 on this upgrade). Inaddition being a games design student I'm a bit of a vigorous gamer...

For this upgrade I'm looking at throwing in the following parts in addition the research I did I wanted the theme to be nice since I run a black and orange theme atm.

-Intel Core i7 3820, S 2011, Sandy Bridge-E, Quad Core, 3.6GHz, 10MB Cache, 130W (May wait a couple of month and see whats going off with the rumoured i7-4820k)
-ASRock X79 Extreme4, Intel X79, S 2011, DDR3, SATA III - 6Gb/s, SATA RAID, PCIe 3.0 (x16), ATX
-Avexir MPower Yellow Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600MHz Dual Channel Memory (Custom from Avexir with orange LEDs and personal engraving on the side)
-Antec Kúhler H2O 920 CPU Watercooling kit (Set the LED to orange :3)
-750W Corsair Pro Series Gold HX750 Hybrid Modular PSU, 80 PLUS Gold
And then I'll probably swap out the 500GB drive in there for a 2TB HDD, already had a HyperX 120GB SSD and 1TB 7200RPM drive in there

Don't think I'll bother with an overclock on this, also may get a second set of the avexirs later on pumping it up to 32GB of overkill

If you choose to go 2011 you should probably go quad channel ram.

Was thinking this since with the rendering the load will be greater and should perform abit better. Was going for dual since I'm buying parts at a time and its just easier for me and since on a normal load theres barley noticable difference.

Fair enough, can always add on a second set of ram later on.

Have you already got a decent graphics card to use in this? Or an old one that will tide you over?

Using My current GPU MSi GTX 660ti OC Power Edition 2GB should be more than enough for a bit of gaming, since it will only really be used for the view port setting when 3D modelling
