Good day sirs,

Their is the possibilty that i am going to be commisioned to create a website for a society of natural science.
Now as the website will contain a main page, 5 + ?static information pages.
Possibly 4 pages that are updatable through server side script.PHP.
These will be a login page, and the ability to add, delete and edit content on these 4 static pages.

Main page
5 static pages
4 Server side
Graphics atop of each page.

So im looking at using CSS/Xhtml/Javascript/PHP and also photoshop type programs to create the site with. I have experince with all of these.

The main question i want to ask at present is how much should i charge?
Does anyone have any tips that has been commisioned to do this sort of work?

any help gratefully recieved

If you're apt and will produce a fully functioning, nicely developed website you may charge easily £20p/h. You'll be styling the pages with CSS, using PHP (or maybe a cms? - with a written instruction guide for the user for when they want to update content) and HTML, seems like quite a decent sized job.

If you've got to create the branding (logos & imagery) and even provide the hosting then bung a bit more on that. However if it's a first time thing just to buff up the hopes of a portfolio you might have to charge less if you've got little experience to show. :)

20/hour is a fair target if it's a serious source of income. I prefer to quote a set price before and (often) increase it for any extras the client comes up with.

Work out how long it will take, add a certain % due to complications/miscalculations (this is the hardest bit imo, it's impossible to know how long something will take until you do it enough), and multiply that by x pounds/hour.

imo i'd only pay if the site design is unique and difficult to copy.

i can make a site like they ask for in 1hour in a free host too. everthing will be free lol

Between £500 and £1000 for a static site with now database backend is common these days. Throw in domain registration and webspace and a nice package comes together.

Personally i would look at your experience and decide how much your worth in terms of your skills and time put into obtaining them.

So your saying you could plan colour schemes/plan layout/choose appropriate fonts/get apporpriate host with enough bandwidth/photoshop graphics/code the site to appropriate web standards in a hour?
