Creating an access point from an old router provided by ISP

Hi guys,

I'm completely baffled by the world of networking but would like to have a go at creating a little setup at home so I can have extra WiFi coverage on all floors of the house for extra strength and of course to reach them dark areas. It's also because my main telephone point in the house is in the upstairs bedroom (blame the previous owner), and I have set up a study downstairs.

What I am hoping to do is leave my Billion 7800N router where it is (upstairs bedroom, this router is mainly used for wireless connections), and set up another WiFi and wired access point in the downstairs study. This will be for the extra WiFi coverage downstairs as well as connecting ethernet to a desktop PC and laptop. I was looking at WiFi Access Points for this but firstly I'm not sure if these access points are only for WiFi or can be used for wired access too and secondly I was hoping to make use of the old routers provided to me by my ISP.

One router is from SKY (Sagem) and the other is a D-Link DSL-2640r provded by my current suppler TalkTalk.

Any constructive feedback on how I should/could approach this?? Many thanks =)

I've had a read about and of course everything is generally how you outline. However I seem to be having a problem with setting up the iP the whole thing just doesn't make sense to me. How do u set up a sensible ip etc etc
