Could any of you clever people give me a quick step-by-step guide on how to create a 1280 x 1024 wallpaper, from a jpeg photo, on Photoshop Elements 4.0?

Many thanks to those who not only understand the above request, bbut manage to respond.

Cheers

I'm not sure I quite understand. How big is the jpeg you already have, and what do you want to do with it, just get it the right size?

you could open the jpg you have in photoshop (do you want the whole thing in it? or do you want to trim the sides..)

OPTIONAL
use the box selection tool (top left of the tools) select the part of the image you want, click image, crop

click Image, Resize enter 1280 and tick 'keep aspect ratio' it should force the other to be 1024

file save as, jpg (high quality around 9 or 90%)

The original jpeg is pretty big. When I look in the Image/Fax viewer thing that comes with XP, the pictures are scaled down to fit the screen. I'm looking to acheive the same effect with Photoshop, in order to create a wallpaper.
