I'm wanting to set my network up at home so that users can logon from any of the PC's and use there files so it prevents me from having to copy files to every PC

What's the best way of doing this?

Do you have some kind of box you could use as a file server? Doesn't have to be very good- just stick some big hard drives in it. Could run linux on it as well and even samba if you wanted a domain environment. Either way, you could then just direct my documents at the file server and even the users' desktop and start menu if you're feeling adventureous (sp?) so they get the same desktop and start menu on each PC :)

Building a file server shouldn't be much of a problem.

Basically what I want to do is set it up so that any PC on the network can access all the media files (though not modify/delete them).

But also setup a couple of user accounts so that landlady doesnt need to copy all her files, she uses downstairs PC during day and upstairs PC during evenings, but wants same files on both PC's

What version of windows are the PC's running?

Tried this with Server 2003.... never again . Linux is probably easier though .
