creating some type of tab tensioned on my projector screen? - Completed!!

My cheap maual pul down screen has some ripples in it. If I could just come up with some method to attach some string or even fishing wire to certain parts to the screen and then have it pulled.

Really dont want to be making holes in the screen though to attach the string as worried it wil tear through it once I pull the string tight.

Any of you folks think of some method I could do?

Thanks for any help, really appreciate!

:)

Would eyelet rivets/rings be any good? Like the metal ones you get in shower curtains and other things. The function of the rivet is to strengthen the surrounding fabric. That may work :)

Yeah - you'd need the eyelets and a set of eyelet pliers. You make a hole in the fabric, put the two halves of the ring either side, then crimp together with the pliers (if that makes sense). The rings grip the fabric to stop it ripping.

I've never done it myself, but you see these eyelets in canvas sheets (to stop tearing), shower curtains (for a similar reason, I guess), plastic/vinyl signs and much more. It's just an idea to look into in more depth :)

Google eyelet rings/rivets to get an idea of what I'm on about :)

Not being a dick but shower curtains and tarpaulins have eyelets in to hang em/rope em up with, not to strengthen them, but as an idea it might work!

What about clip on poster frames? If you had two long pieces, one in each side of the screen, the added weight might tighten the screen up, and stop the sides folding if that's the problem?

Here's how roll-up tab tensioned screens are constructed...

If you want your screen to roll away again then you have to avoid anything that's going to create significant bulk. Eyelets are fairly thin, but once you have a few wrapped around the screen roller then it'll be a problem. The result will be more distortions in the screen surface and you being worse off than before.

Have a think about doing a similar trick to the screen manufacturers. Get some reinforced vinyl and cut some strips. Fold them in half to form a tab, then glue the flaps to the screen with some suitable vinyl glue.

Use elastic cords for the tension between the vinyl tab loops and the wall.

Here I have put a screw in the wall and plan to wrap the string around it until its tight to pull the screen even more

Here is the end result - I havent pulled it all tight yet as want to leave it for 24 hours for the adhesive to dry just to be safe
