Creating video playlists

I want to create a bunch of different playlist, each playlist from a certain genre of shows; like "comedy" or "wild life documentary" to watch while getting to sleep. So i can simply click the play list file via explorer and then go automatically to where i was the night before. How can i achieve this?

I would prefer to use VLC or Media Player Classic
