Hi all,

I'm trying to copy all of my video camera recordings (DV format) onto to the PC so that they can be stored and played from the network. I specifically would like to create files that can be played back through the XBox 360 (Video library)

I have been using Powerdirector 7 to create DVD's fine but when I try to create a file (instead of a DVD) I have been unable to create one that the XBox recognises. I've tried MPeg 2/MPeg 4/AVI/Divx but they xbox either fails to see the file or tells me it's an unsupported codec.

I have several downloaded media items that play fine on the XBox so I know it's not the machine.

What format should I be creating and what would be the best software to use to create this file.

I'm currently using Vista 64 Ultimate and most of the tapes where not recorded in HD (in fact I don't own an HD TV either).

Thanks in advance for any help

If you encode them into avi, you can use Media Player 11 to stream them through your 360.

Turorial for streaming is here.

In fact, you can pretty much play anything as long as its added to your MP library.

You could use WinAvi to encode to different formats. You may have problems starting the applciation up on Vista every now and again but it seems to work OK here on Ultimate x86.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a try.

I thought the XBox already did DivX (since the dashboard update earlier this year (or late last year)) and if I just created my files in DivX format it would play OK.

I tried playing DivX via Media Center after the 360 update but still had no joy. Strange thing is if you add it your Media Player Library, it will stream it. May just be that Media Player can call up the right codecs and Media Center cannot. Not sure!

I found the Windows Media Centre on the XBox EXTREMELY slow and have given up trying to play any media. It can see the list of films but it can take up to a minute to move between films on the 360. WMC on the PC runs absolutely fine.

Yeah, I get some lag sometimes if using the 360's Media Center to syncronise with Media Center on the PC.

Since using the folder options only on the 360 and having Media Player to stream it from my PC, its been a doddle.
