Creative Audigy Platinum 2

Is the above any better than the on-board sound on an Asus P5K Pro?

Can get it for cheap so wondering if it worth anything really...

It also has the front panel connector.

Cheers, Doug.

well you get the EAX effects with the audigy :) ive got the aduigy 2 sound card in my rig and its serving me well :) i really want to get my hands on that front panel tho :D hehe been searching everywhere for one on its own, or just a cheap platinum card with it and then sell mine to my mate :p

but well if you can find use for the front panel such as midi music work and/or the big jacks for recording guitar or mics then its definitly worth and the creative software has a nice bundle of settings :)

Cheers for replying!

I don't think I would use any of the optical outputs or inputs or any thing on the front panel really...

Is the EAX worth having? I don;t even know what it does... Google here I come!

Any other opinions?

Cheers, Doug.

well what ya going to be using it for really? just music listening or gaming or what ever?
EAX is environment filtering, basically it modulates the sound by adding effects to it,
e.g. if your underwater it will add that effect, or if you are in a cave it will add echos. depending on the series of creative card you get a different version of EAX, for example i think audigy 2 has version EAX2.0 which means it can apply 2 environment effects at the same time, audigy 4 has EAX4.0 so it can do 4 effects overlapping, and the x-fi has EAX5.0 so its in the lead with 5 effect overlays :)

hope that explained it as well as google :p and so well not too sure how many games actually use EAX, usually if it has a creative logo on the back of a case i would imagine that it supports EAX, its usually in the sound options as the hardware option instead of software, or has a seperate EAX tick box.

Cheers again!

I think I'll grab it next Monday when i'm back in then. Can't hurt really for a fiver!

Even if I don't end up using it all right now at least I'll have it just in case I do need to use it all.

Cheers again, Doug.
