Is any one having problems at the moment with the latest creative drivers for Vista 64 bit. pc seems to play sound and then suddenly stop and then it comes back for a while and then goes again.

I didnt really have any problems with windows xp

I noticed the creative drivers stopped the vista control panel and system properties from loading on my Vista 32.

I removed my X-Fi about 2wks ago not had a problem since, sound isn't any worse either since all that EAX ****** was disabled from Vista anyway.

I went back to the previous ones, 30th May ones didn't like Teamspeak :(

All ok now, all sounds good too. Alchemy is only any good on older titles from what i've read at creative. See the games list here:

My BF2 is perfect!

Still no support for Rainbow Six.

My Xfi drivers seem to like to un-install them selves sometimes when I reboot, I went back to onboard sound yesterday.

Alchemy works with any game that uses DirectSound. Unless the game uses OpenAL then you will NOT have any hardware acceleration in game without it.

Case and point, benched CoH 1.70 last night:

Min:5.2 Avg: 44 Max:60.9

When Alchemy is installed.
Min:25.5 Avg: 46: Max:60.9
(this is on a c2d @ 3.5ghz)
Trying to use 5.1 44khz + 128 voices places a great strain on the vista software mixer, hense the drop.

I recommend you try ALchemy with all the games you're having performance troubles/want to use EAX with.

Otherwise, I've found the X-Fi to work pretty well once you work around the bugs.

What about the drivers un-installing themselves though? Seems im not the only one.

Just playing music now and I can notice the difference :(

If this problem was fixed i'd put the Xfi straight back in.
