Creative Elite Pro or Auzentech Prelude

If you were able to find the time to use Google or to search this forum you'll find that the consensus of opinion is that the Prelude card is...... ...... compared to the Elite Pro.

I've found mine Lep, so we can help him out now eh?

The elite pro is overpriced, i went for the Prelude as it will soon do everything (dolby, EAX, blablabla) and supposedly has better sound quality than the Creative's.

I do not appreciate the sarcasm, 'Leporello'. I research things thoroughly before posting any questions here.

I searched Google frantically over the weekend, as well as various forums. The general consensus seems to be that the Prelude is better than the majority of Creative's X-fis. I say majority, because I am unable to find any comparison with the Elite Pro. If the Elite Pro used exactly the same hardware as the other models, it would be a no-brainer, but as we know, it's hardware is of a higher quality. I've come across a few people who want to change their Elite Pro for a Prelude, and others who are telling them it might not be worth it. But those general comments say very little. If you have happened to find the answers to what I'm looking for, please share them, because I can assure you, I have searched *thoroughly*.

Thank you for your input '*Chris'. I am leaning towards the Prelude myself. The thing I like about the Elite Pro is the preamp the I/O box has. But I could always buy another preamp. But for now, I'm just trying to determine which card has the best sound quality

Creative only let others use the X-FI Chipset as its about to release the X-FI 2, you dont give others your best tech, but it will make them some cash as they are losing lots of it esp in USA after pulling out with DAP market.

The Prelude still uses Creative written drivers anyhow.

They do have a patch for 4GB Memory+Vista though, I'm going to try applying it to my X-FI Fatal1ty if I get issues when my new memory arrives this week.

Yeah, the patch is a major selling point for me, as I have Vista x64 & 4GB of RAM. It makes me wonder how Auzentech have release a patch for the 4GB issue so quickly, when Creative have not, during all of the time they've had. It doesn't really say much for Creative...

Various people with Vista x64 & 4GB of memory have reported that there is constant cracking and/or hissing coming through their speakers, which is pretty unbearable. People have said that if they revert back to the 2.13.0012 drivers, the problem disappears, although there is reduced functionality...

Thanks for the input. I've ordered a Prelude. I found a very good preamp which suits my needs perfectly, so I'll buy that, as my desire for the I/O box was only so I could connect my guitar up

You could have indicated that you'd done some research in your original post and perhaps even shared your own thoughts so far. We all benefit from sharing our knowledge. I happen to be considering buying the Prelude also and have probably have browsed the same reviews and threads as you. General questions such as the one you posed waste just as much time and bandwidth as the generalised comments which you find so unhelpful.

Sorry that you don't appreciate sarcasm, but that's your loss.

I wish you every success in your *thorough* research. As for me I'll probably buy a Prelude tomorrow and come back on Wednesday to inform everyone the it sounds fantastic.:D

Leporello, why did you not just help him or state, "use search m8" ?.

Instead you wasted more energy typing out that load of BS above and giving him a hardtime.

I was referring to your sarcasm, as you were just using it to be patronising.

I came to the forum for helpful advice, and my question was to the point since, as I have said, my knowledge of that specific question (whether the Prelude is better than the Elite Pro or not (and that's all I am interested in.)) was minimal, so I could not offer anything helpful relative to that query.
