which one should i buy? Creative EP630 or Sennheiser mx500?
im pretty interested in both, they would be used with my mp3 player just to listen to music while im travelling on public transport.
which one would you recommend me to buy?

id prob be gettin them off the bay, theres some auctions with SENNHEISER MX500 for £4 p&p and only 99p bid so far, so i could get them for a lot cheaper than the creative ep-640 which would cost around £15 after adding on p&p but theres no point buying cheap earphones if they will just be rubbish sound quality

MX500 have a nice sound but are a bit short on bass, plus they're a bit quiet so they'll run your battery down quicker. EP630 (which are the same as Sennheiser CX300) sound good but have a few other issues, like if the wire brushes against anything (your face or shirt), that sound is amplified and can be a bit off putting. Any sounds from your body are amplified too, like footsteps, breathing (my brother said today they sounded like Darth Vader was following you round :D ), eating etc, but on public transport is the one occasion where you'll notice these problems the least.

I'd say go for the EP630 unless you don't like canal phones.

I've got both and I'd say the EP630's too, even though the feedback which fish99 described is quite off putting. The sound is quality though, and isolation very good, just a shame the feedback partially defeats the point of that.

I've only just received the MX500's a week ago and despite loving Sennheiser products, I have to say they are the poorest earphones I've ever bought. Build quality is aweful, and the sound is even worse then the included sennheisers that came with my iriver H10. Just dreadful imo, I'm using these as my main phones atm though because the 630's feedback is unbearable for me.

Still searching for some nice phones :/

I have the MX500's and I like them. Mine have plenty of bass. I wonder what you guys are using them with. I suspect its older iPods. The MX500's are cheap earphones so you can't expect too much form that. My main issue with them is they aren't as clear or as detailed as I would like. The in Ear Phones like the EP630's are quite different to use, I never got comfy with them. Theres a very similar earphone called the Sennheiser CX300. Lots of discussions on Head-Fi about them. Other earbuds to consider are the Sony MDR-EX90LP. After that you have to move to IEM like UE, Shure, and Etymotic etc.

Obviously theres also earphones to consider. Koss KSC-75 are well regarded as are Sennheiser PX100's (I have the PMX100) and Porta Pro's.

Apparently EP630 and CX300 are actually the same thing. I've never heard the EP630 to verify this but I keep reading it here, and since they look identical it's probably true. So naturally the EP630 are the one to go for at half the price of the CX300.

I've used my MX500 with my Sony NWE107 MP3 player (very good sound quality), and connected to my Marantz CD6000 OSE LE cd player, and they definitely are short on bass IMO (compared to a whole range of other headphones and speakers). Maybe you've just got used to them. Try pressing them into your ears a little you can hear what is missing.

There's no denying the gimp factor :D They don't look good and they do stand out, but they sure sound good.

I bought some mx500s to replace the ones that came with my creative muvo, I paid abou £13 in p&p off ebay. I was a bit dissapointed with them as they don't sound better than the other's. I'm glad I didn't pay full retail price for them

At £13 I would imagine that they are genuine. But keep in mind that Sennnheiser earbuds are one of the most counterfeited phones around (I don't mean those that claim to be "Sennheiser like" but actual imitations brand and all). I'd go for the KSC-75 as well, for the sound and cost, I can more than forgive looking like a gimp :D

(Or if you prefer more traditional looking headphones there is also the Porta/Sporta Pro series)

I think most people these days have got used to too much bass on their music. All the preset EQ settings on my Pioneer Car CD/MP3 head unit have mega bass but at the expense of any mids.

Well I'm comparing the MX500 to other headphones connected to a high quality hi-fi cd player (with no EQ). For instance, Koss KSC-75, Grado SR80, Sennheiser HD433, HD565 Ovations, CX300, Sony EX71 etc. They all have significantly more bass than MX500.

Also it's the same deal if I compare MX500 to my hi-fi system (with the tone settings off) and with speakers (Wharfedale 9.1s) which aren't know for excessive bass, and when the amp is known for having a relatively bright sound, and again the MX500s have too little bass in comparison.

I'd agree most car sound systems are way OTT bass wise to the point of sounding ridiculous (and you can add many PC speaker sets to that), but if you hear a decent well setup hi-fi seperates system, which is designed just to produce what's there on the recording, there will be a significant amount of bass (depending on the recording in question).

You do get used to a certain sound after a while though. For months I didn't realize how bright my Grado headphones sounded until I compared them to something else.
