Was thinking getting a birthday present and wanted some 2.0 speakers. I was between the T20, T40 and M-Audio AV40. The AV-40 sounds the best out of the three but it seems very bulky for desktop usage, same for the T40 so l am leaning towards the T20.

They will be powered by a Xonar Essence STX. I like listening to music and watching TV. I am currently using a pair of HD-650 but l would like the option of being able to listen to some music without having to wear the headphones all the time.

Anyone here that had some experience with the T20?

I think you made a good decision in ruling out the T40's. The AV40's are superior to the T40's and only a tenner more. The T20's are at the kind of price where someone maybe doesn't want to spend near £100.

There are some who feel the T20's and T40's aren't very good at all. Obviously that comes down to ones own preferences. The fact you have high end headphones, might mean the T20's wont sound as good to you, as they will to someone with only experience of PC speakers. Of course, that isn't to say you wont like them, it's just you are used to a higher quality of sound, than the average user who has ever only owned cheaper PC speakers, that might be a factor as to how they sound to you. I do believe Uriel thought the T20's were pretty good, for what they are and what they cost, and he has used plenty of high end headphones.

Other than the T20's, there isn't a lot of choice without paying £100 or more. A stereo amplifier and bookshelf speakers is an alternative, but that comes down to desk space available. The T20's offer a good balance of price, performance and size I would say.

I have the T40 Series I. The sound seems good to me. The only irritating thing is that the on off switch is on the back rather than integrated into the volume knob.

I have a set of first gen t20s.

I uses them for gaming and music when sat at my desk which is in my living room.

I also have a hi fi in the living room, which is rigged up to the pc for serious music, or if I have friends over.

I would say they are great speakers. I am very happy with them. They have great bass for the size of the boxes, and are very good quality overall. They do sound a tad bright out of the box, but that can be sorted out easily with the speakers tone controls and your media players eq.

They certainly dont have the ommph of a full on hi fi, and won't really do films justice as main speakers. But you can't expect 4 inch woffers to compete with 6-8 woffers on a hifi, especially If you throw a 12 inch sub into the mix. It's horses for courses, nothing will come close for the price. they are a neat high-ish quality 2.0 speaker and amp package and are great at what they do. I would fully recommend them.

Hi matt

I agree they are very good for their size/price.

Each speaker is around 3.25" wide and the bass/mid driver is approx 2" long throw (NOT 4") so barring that in mind the bass tends to be tight and fast (which I prefer) rather than deeper and slow.

Would recommend but always best to listen before you buy if possible.

PS I believe bass drivers are normally referred to as woofers NOT woffers.

I own the T40s and my dad has the AV40s. We have compared a lot and came to the conclusion that for univeristy, my T40s are better then his AV40s due to the size. My dad is really into his music, more so then myself, and he loves his AV40s for that purpose. When I bought my T40s, I wanted a set of 2.0 speakers that could let me have good sound quality when turned up a little and are good for gaming. Thats what I got from them too. I agree completely that its horses for courses, but after hearing them both many times, I honestly dont think either would dissappoint you.

I have the speakers in the subject title

Theyre fine for filling a small room with sound, and if you just want some speakers to plonk next to your monitor then theyre perfect.

They wont get your neighbours banging on the door...theyre not that capacious.

I owned a logitech z4 2.1 set before these, the z4 was louder and obviously more bassy with the subwoofer.

I prefer the cleaner sound of the t20, I can make out more details in music and there is a great balance of sound, although midrange is a tad bright (and can be painful listening to dialogue for instance).

making a bit of a backwards step here, but looking for some speakers to replace my Aego M's which sound fantastic but new desks equal no more room for a sub :(

Thinking of T20's series 2, am i going to be really really disapointed?

Possibly. Many think the T20's are superb for what they are, and what they cost. Some don't like them and find them tinny. It's all down to one's personal taste really. They seem like good value to me, but going from a 2.1 set, and a good one at that, the T20's might sound tinny in comparison. Until you have heard them, it's just guess work really, unless you can find other comments from people who have moved to them from the Aego's.
