Hi Guys
I have some questions about an upgrade I'm looking at doing if you wouldnt mind offering your advice. I'm by no means an audio enthusiast but I appreciate a nice crisp sound. I don't understand all the connection types and different standards so please forgive any stupid questions on my part.
I use my current setup for gaming FPS's and MMO's mainly and with the occasional bit of music and video watching. The EAX seems to work although sometimes I'm not sure if the audio position works properly for the sounds coming out of the correct speakers.
I currently have the following
Cambridge SoundWorks DTT 3500 Speak Setup
http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=1376
It has the following connectivity available
*Creative Labs Digital DIN connection
*Optical SPDIF connection
*Coaxial SPDIF connection
*Front and rear analog inputs
Creative Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card
When those speakers first came out I had them paired with a SB Live 5.1 and the front panel box. At the time of using the SBLive I was using the Coaxial Digital connection which worked great & trouble free!
Later on my SB Live 5.1 Died
and had to replace it with a Audigy 2 ZS. As the Audigy didn't have a coax out or a native DIN connection I had to use an adapter cable (will post a pic this when I get home from work) to allow me to continue to use the DIN connection on the back of the amp (see the pic in the ana tech link) This seems to work ok but I've always been confused if the EAX is working correctly plus the creative drivers keep screwing up and turning off the digital output.
Now I hope to replace my existing card with either of these two options.
Platinum Fatal1ty 7.1 Champion Series
or
Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Professional 7.1
The professional is the cheaper of the two but I'm not sure if I would need to buy the optional (£20 + del) Creative Digital I/O Module in order to it to work properly with my speakers.
Or I spent the extra £27 on the Champion to get the front breakout box (like my old SBLive). Money isnt really a dividing point for this.
At the end of the day it seems they will both cost almost the same amount so its really down to which one is better. Better = more stable (Drivers & Creative Applications) & gaming quality.
I've read many different opinions on the two cards but cant seem to find any hard facts.
Can anyone offer any advice as to which option might be the better one to take?
Hopefully I haven't missed anything out but lunch is over now and back to the grind!
Thanks
Kosch
