hiya was thinking of buying this card to replace the soundcard that came with my asus striker extreme would there be much difference ? Only problem is with the soundcard im currently using it seems to crackle a lot while playing fear. But i would like a good audio experiance

Which soundcard do you have so we know what its up against?!

For gaming the Xfi cant be bettered due to full EAX support I upgraded from an audidgy 2zs and noticed a huge boost in sound quality. I'm willing to bet that you would notice a difference even though i dont know what sound card you have at the moment!

ok thanks but just one more thing i heard it can have a problem with Nvidia mobos will it cause a problem ? as my chipset is the 680i

Just put an XFI extreme Music in my Asus A8N-sli Deluxe and with the latest Creative drivers it works fine. i did however have to dig my old Audigy4 drivers out of the registry using RegCleaner as the uninstall left some entries behind.
Not noticed any problems with FEAR/FEAR EP but i will fire it up now and have a quick check.
back in a mo.
*EDIT*
Works superb with all ingame audio effects at max.
Cant wait for my 5.1 system to turn up tomorrow :D

The crackling sound is related to the 680i mobos. It seems to be a BIOS issue, and for which there should be a fix, but some mobos are still having issues.

For example, the EVGA forums are full of people having problems with their 680i mobos, and some of those issues are sound related.

I guess you will need to wait for a new BIOS to fix the issue, unless it is a 680 chipset issue, in which case there might not be a fix.

I think people get more crackling when running SLi.

the crackling will be down to delay using onboard sound, so it will definitely improve the quality of play.

I think all you get extra is a shiny box from the OEM of that particular card.

How about this difference between

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SC-040-CL

and

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SC-043-CL

On

Logitech Z-5400 THX® Certified 5.1 310 Watts Speakers

?? :)

I'v just made pretty much the same move myself, from a standard audigy to an xtreme music with z-5400 speakers. The difference is amazing, music is clearer and my 5.1 setup now feels like its being used to its potential. Its well worth the money.
