Greetings all,

I wonder if anyone could help me by answering some questions. I am interested in buying an X-Fi card and was looking at the Xtreme Music one. However I noticed some threads and posts in this forum stating they had problems when they got their cards, like for example not being able to boot at all and many claimed to have had the Xtreme Music.

Now I was wondering if anyone knows if those problem were attributed to some of the early models or something like that and if they have been solved. Since I live outside the UK it would be a little troublesome for me to return a faulty card so was wondering if for example the gamer edition one is a safer purchase.

Just so you know I have the AW9D-MAX mobo.

Thanks in advance, any help at all would be much appreciated.

Well thanks for all the replies everyone.

I decided to go ahead and ordered one. I should be receiving it next Friday, hopefully I won't have nay problems. :)

But I'm curious, what sound cards would be a good alternative as I have always heard that they are the best for gaming, music and movies.

it's not because of their marketing campaign but rather cos of my ignorance as i don't know what other cards there are.

But anyway since I'll mostly use it for gaming than in a sense I got the best card :D

It should still be good for music and movies right? :)

Thanks Firegod, I will certainly try out the Crystalliser feature when I get my card :)

Btw I've been seeing some ppl mentioning a feature called OpenAL and saying it is really good. What is this exactly? I am currently play Fable: Lost Chapters and one of the options is in fact OpenAL. Is it better than EAX? Which would you guys choose?
