I just bought the Katana soundbar from OCUK. The speakers work fine and sound great but the remote control is non-functional. I've remove all the packaging including the plastic battery tab dookicky that is presumably meant to stop it discharging in storage. Before I go and buy a new battery (assuming it's the battery), am I missing something mind numbingly obvious?

Doesn't sound like it. You're right that the plastic tab stops the battery discharging. Have you tried taking the battery out and putting it back?
If you've just pulled the tab out, I wonder if the contact is not there for some reason; maybe some of the plastic is left inside stopping contact.
Worth trying that and try it from different angles and close up. If it's still not working, then most likely either a duff battery or a duff remote.
