Howdy,

I'm seriously considering ditching my old sound card (X-FI Xtreme Music) in my new build as I'm going Micro ATX

I'm eyeing up a couple of motherboards with on board sound, the main difference between the two is the above mentioned solutions but the cost difference is around £60

I have a 5.1 Creative Megaworks speaker setup, old but still very capable in regards to gaming and I'd like them to sound the same or better whilst ditching the soundcard for on board, currently I don't use head phones

Any help appreciated

The Creative SoundCore3D will sound better no doubt. That's assuming it's an actual Creative Core3D chip being used. X-Fi SupremeFX that featured on a few board years ago (it still may do), despite the name it wasn't an actual X-Fi chip used, just a software overlay. The onboard audio was still Realtek. Anyway, if the SoundCore3D is an actual Creative chip, it will sound better than the ALC892. Whether it will be noticeably better and worth the extra £60, is another matter. That's something that is really impossible to answer until you hear it for yourself.
