I remember vaguely that there is a thread here (could not find the thread now) that mentions a screeching sound fault coming from a T40 or maybe a T20 creative speaker.
If anyone is curious to find out what is the cause of the problem, a few weeks back I was able to get hold of a T40 Series 2 with a similar fault and found out the problem is actually the main amp IC as shown in the pic.
The fault was screeching sound coming from the speakers, the volume control has no effect on the screeching sound also the headphone out is still working if one is connected to it.
After replacing the chip the Spk is now working fine.
One of the ceramic cap was a bit blown off/mis aligned by the hot air (my fault) which also needs fixing.
