Creative X-Fi and Battlefield 2 Not Working

I recently bought a creative x-fi extreme music sound card, which i thought would be perfect for battelfield 2 as there is an option to use the x-fi in the battlefield 2 audio options.
The card works fine and so does BF2, but when i select the x-fi mode in the game options and press 'apply', the game crashes and it goes straight to desktop.
At first i thought this was supposed to happen, but when i started up the game again, the settings had not been changed and it just wont let me choose the x-fi option.

Is this a common problem? Anyone know whats going wrong?

Also, i have creative p580 speakers (the cheap ones), so maybe this is the cause of my problem?

The problem is already documented in the Knowledge Base. (I copied it here for you)

If you encounter this problem, we recommend that you reinstall your Sound Blaster X-Fi drivers as follows:

1.

Browse to *:\Audio\Drivers on the X-Fi installation CD (where * is your CD/DVD Rom Drive letter).
2.

Double-click Setup.exe to run the Creative Driver Update Utility.
3.

Under Update Option check the Driver Uninstallation box.
4.

Check the Delete all shared Creative audio driver files box.
5.

Click OK.
6.

Click Yes to the warning that follows.
7.

Click OK to proceed with the uninstallation.
8.

When prompted, click OK to reboot your system.
9.

When your system has rebooted, click Cancel when Windows detects new hardware.
10.

Repeat steps 1 and 2.
11.

Under Update Option check the Driver installation box.
12.

Click OK.
13.

Reboot PC when prompted.
14.

Relaunch Battlefield2.
15. You can now apply Sound Blaster X-Fi settings in the game's audio settings and proceed.
