Hi,

Bought the said sound card as its on this week only special offer, and wanted a pcie sound card.

My board is detecting it ok - but as its oem theres no driver cd. I've searched on creatives website, and there are no XP drivers listed for it, only vista? I've seen references to XP drivers on various websites/forums, but can't seem to find any driver files?

I don't want to have to upgrade to vista just to get this card working??

Looks like its back to onboard for me for a while.. :(

Thanks for the reply.

Hmm - nope, no driver cd in the packaging/parcel at all.

Do you happen to still have your cd? Are there XP drivers on it that you can see?

I sold mine a little while after i got it as i got hold of a fatal1ty version, youre right tho i cant see any XP drivers on the site

I just bought one of these on the MM - arrived today. Want me to check the CD and upload whatever I find to my website for you?

If you could that would be great! Thanks. Hopefully there will be some xp drivers on that cd (fingers crossed). :D

This is getting nuts! Checked on creatives page about the card :-

http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=208&product=16770&nav=4

..and it clearly states works on XP, XP 64 and Vista. Yet I can't find any drivers anywhere!! Their support page has the card listed but when you choose XP as the platform is states something along the lines of "no files found". In fact when you choose vista it only shows an application download - no drivers??

Found various references for an x-fi oem driver cd (which I don't have), as well as a generic genuine X-Fi drivers cd for free from one stateside place - but reading the last couple of lines of the description it states "No drivers for X-Fi Extreme Audio are icluded" as well as "there are no XP drivers on this cd".

This basically means I've got a card which is useless to me at the moment as I can't use it in windows. Machine sees it ok, and I get prompted for drivers so that hardware isn't an issue.

I've been building computers for years, and this is most frustration I've ever had trying to get a sound card to work, maybe even any hardware (although the worst had to be pci software modems for that in the past).

Ditching the card now and doubt I will get a creative card again for a long time after this mess. Going to track down another brand with high def audio support and good quality - probably an Auzentech or something.

Rant over.. :)

Sorry, mate... I fell asleep just after I posted that and forgot about it until just now.

Looking at the CD now so will upload it in a minute, in case you still need it.

edit: burned to .ISO and uploading... gonna take 55mins cause I ended up copying the entire CD as I couldn't work out just which bits you could need.

Cheers - thanks for that. All the cd's I have managed to get hold of by various means seem to be either vista only, or specifically state that they are for the "better" versions (true X-fi?) only.

I'll give these ones a try - hopeing they don't do the "oem different model from retail so drivers won't work" thing. Fingers crossed!

Thanks again.

Thanks again.

Downloaded them, ran the setup and installed the prompts - it installed loads of aps, but at one point came up with an error - "setup has experienced an error. Error code -6006".

Rebooted - apps are present, but when I tried opening up the creative audio mixing tools etc, it states "no supported device present" (or words to that effect) - and I still have the unknown device in device manager.

Uninstalled everything, and reinstalled with the "drivers only" option, and the error occured again - so it looks like its not installing the drivers, probably as its not recognising the oem hardware?

Is this a copy of the cd that came with the retail or oem version of the pci-e card?

Talk about frustrating...... arrrrrgggghhhh!!!! :(

Well, had a browse through the contents of the cd. Most of it is apps and stuff.

I go into the audio folder, then drivers - and run setup from there and just get an error "no supported devices found".

This is mad. I've had enough of this rubbish and chucking it in my spares bin.

Did send a webnote earlier stating the driver issues and the fact that I couldn't find any working drivers online from xp, and did they have the oem driver cd for the card....

...and the reply gave details on how to check on the creative web site for drivers - where there are none for xp.

If anybody has got on of these oem cards with a cd, and has it working on xp PLEASE let me know!

Thanks for the help though GarethDW.

OEM version.... and it's the PCI version not PCI-e. Sorry, didn't think to ask about PCI-e.

Have you tried using the one that's available on this link...?

http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/

Just select XP as the OS (it was default for me).

This was my first port of call, and frustratingly if you choose the PCIE card, and then xp as your os it doesn't have any files available. In fact, if you choose Vista it only seems to list an apps update, and no drivers.

I've given up now.

quite sure stuff like this you can always find on places like filefront i had to get audigy 2 zs ones from there as my cd had scratched.

I've been doing google searches, bittorrent searches etc etc etc - and what usually comes up it Vista driver sets for the "proper" X-fi cards - i.e. not for the inferior chip of whatevers on the PCI-E Xtreme Audio card.

Considering they have listed the PCI-E version as a seperate option it must require a different driver set - and the standard "all other" X-fi drivers sets install apps just come up with "no supported hardware found".

Been searching for an hour too saw someone say that dell include these cards now in certain ranges ? this is unacceptable really if i were you i would return the card.Or demand the cd from the place you got it as it is meant to come with it OEM or retail comes with the cd.
This is outrageous from creative !!!

Bought the card from OCUK on the this week only offer. Already tried contacting them in regards to obtaining an oem driver cd - first reply pointed me to creatives website. So sent a more detailed description of the issue - still awaiting a reply as yet.

To be honest done some more reading up and apparantly reviews of this card have not been particularly favourable anyway.

May look into returning it but will have to consider postage costs and the like.

Think I may save up a bit and go for that nice Asus Sonar card.. :D

hi fizzy,

I got this sound card last week and it came with a CD, not sure why you didn't get one. Mines came in a brown envelope with the sound card along with some other things i ordered all in a box.

As for the drivers i looked around and couldn't find any XP drivers. I'm actually on Windows Vista 64 Ultimate and i got the drivers from the creative website and so far i haven't had any problems with it. The only problem i have is when i load Vista up it keeps asking me for a driver which i already have installed and if i click "dont ask me again" i get no sound at all. So i need to click "ask me later" everytime i boot up, anyone know how i can fix this?. Other than that the sound card is really good, much better than onboard.

Anyway i browsed the CD and it has vista and xp drivers on it, i could try and upload the cd if you want ??

Thanks for that - I only got the card, with no cd, in a standard anti static bag with the rest of the contents of the order.

However, I've had a reply back from ocuk and they are sending me a cd out. Hopefully this will sort things out, but if not I may be back to ask you for a copy of your cd. :D
