Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic Issue

Ive just installed my new sound card and can't seem to get it to work. A read reviews on the card before buying, but now I'm worries these reviewers were misinformed.

Does this card have an S/PDIF output? The reviews i read stated that the "Flexi Jack" port at the rear of the card is S/PDIF. I bought a mono jack to RCA converter and connected it to my amp - nothing. The sound card doesn't even know it is there.

WTF is going on? I find the Creative site extremely lacking in detailed infomation.

Does this card have an S/PDIF out on the back or what? :confused:

Any help greatly appreciated.

Have you told the software that you want to use the flexi jack as SPDIF?

Its defaults to Mic In

I'm running Vista. I don;t see an option to do that.

I've told Vista that I want to use S/PDIF. That worked fine with the on board sound.

Ahh right. Not sure about vista mate. Have the final X-Fi drivers been released yet?

Yes. Everything installs fine. S/PDIF worked fine on the on board sound card, so it is nothing outside the PC causing the issue.

From what you say though - that connection at the rear is an S/PDIF - so at least I know my card should do what I want it to do.

Anyone using a Creative card with S/PDIF on Vista?

To use SPDIF on ExtremeMusic card you need the additional Digital i/o add on. This is bought seperately.

ive got a feeling SPDIF is disabled in the Vista drivers as well because creative couldnt make good drivers if they tried

In the main X-Fi Vista settings bit (not the S/PDIF bit or the Audio Console) there's a tick box on one of the option pages to enable Digital I/O. You need to do this before the S/PDIF will work.
