Had a look at these two today in the flesh and apart from the extra thickness of the creative i liked the look and feel of it. Ipod is sexy, but battery history and the possibility of killing my sony earphones puts me off them.

Anyone got pro's and cons of both?

The Creative player supports DivX and XviD videos if that's an advantage to you (Although there is software readily available to transfer these files to a format the iPod uses). It also has a better screen (~256k colours compared to the 65k the iPod has, if I recall correctly) and a better (claimed) battery life.

However, the iPod is thinner and looks a lot better in my opinion. I've also found the iTunes software a lot more pleasant than Creative's offerings, if that is important to you :)

Cheers for the input. I wont be using it for video, just music and a few photos really.

I've never really tried itunes, and the creative software ive tried in the past has been pretty poor. I'm really put off the ipod cos of the headphone breaking issue

Yeah, if your not using video then drop down to a model that can just do photos maybe. I've a Zen vision M and it's great.

defeats the object of the vision m...

Not entirely. The next model down is the zen sleek photo which costs almost as much, and does not seem as good.

I cant think of any non video alternatives that save me any money?

I have the same problem right now, and am leaning the other way towards the Ipod purely because its £40 cheaper, and according to the guys over at head-fi the sound quality differences between them are negligable when not using the EQ's. I know that the Vision:M has more features, and now people tend to look at whats wrong with the Ipod more that what it does do well, but some aspects of it still bother me. The fact that the bundle is so stingy puts me off slightly, and converting videos to mpeg would be a hassle, but then again its cheaper and thinner

Just thought i'd give my input, and sorry for the slight thread hijack, but didnt want to make another thread about the same thing :)

And to answer your question, cheaper non-video playing DAP's such as the iAudio M5 (i think thats what its called) is almost the same as the X5, just without the colour screen

Just don't use the iPod headphones, they suck tbh, get some nice Sennheiser ones ;D

the issue with the 5G ipod videos is the unit breaking the headphones, whether they are apple or a 3rd party make. So if it broke my sonys i wouldnt be able to get them replaced as they are more than a year old.

I'm in the same boat, not sure what to get. But whats that about 5G breaking headphones?? Wouldn't like to see my Shures go up the spout

Thanks for asking the question Charltonfan1

I'm assuming that is the isee from contourcase? If so they are releasing the showcase video this month which is meant to be better.

See this thread.

BTW way, even if you do get one of those I would probably recommend getting a marting fields protector just to add a layer to the front of the screen, this will prevent any dust causing small scratches if it touches the case.

Yep you are correct :) i think i prefer the all clear look. Other alternatives are:

Agent 18
Contour iSee
XtremeMac MicroShield
Speck See-Thru
AXShop Hard Plastic Case
Power Support

they are all pretty similar from the looks of things
