Credit Card limit exceeded, charge?

Simple question from a poor uni student.
I made a purchase which has taken my Natwest student credit card over the £500 limit by a few quid. According to this Natwest will charge £12.

Now, is that £12 per day or a one-off once the statement comes through.

Usually per month as your billed monthly by the majority of credit card companies.
